When Rob from One More Wave reached out about the organization's needs, we knew right away we wanted to support their cause again. In 2022, we donated $5,000 to One More Wave, and this year we doubled that with a donation of $10,000. There are many wonderful things happening with this group!
Equipment:
Each year, they aim to provide 100 grants to those in need. A grant includes a surfboard tailored to the veteran's specific needs, a customized wetsuit essential for amputees, a travel bag for equipment, and all accessories required. The costs range from $1,500 to $3,500 for the adaptive surfboard and gear. This portion of their mission requires the majority of their budget. To date, One More Wave have provided more than 750 surf grants!
Athlete Support:
The Veterans Administration finds lots of goodness in sports competitions as a way of healing for many veterans after severe injuries and illness. One More Wave supports all veterans competing for Team USA on the para surf team. They currently provide all the surf equipment these athletes require and in-water support, and they have four veterans on the team, three are captains!
Mentorship:
One More Wave now runs the surf clinic for the Naval Hospital in San Diego, and provides instruction and mentorship to service members currently inpatients at the hospital. The Naval Hospital's surf clinic can also be expensive as we provide weekly instruction, which is hard on equipment and surf instructors! One More Wave takes on the cost of equipment for up to 20 patients, beach permitting, insurance, and instructors.
